Christoph Lindner, Dean of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts (A&AA), has announced leaders for each new school in the College of Design that launches July 1.

• School of Architecture & Environment: Liska Chan, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture. Chan has taught at the UO since 2001 and served as the head of the Landscape Architecture department from 2010 to 2015. Her creative practice involves mapping to examine and show landscape change. Chan was recently honored by the Oregon Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects with the Lord & Schryver Award in recognition of her significant contributions to the achievement and recognition of women in landscape architecture.

• School of Art + Design: Laura Vandenburgh, Associate Professor of Art. Vandenburgh has taught at the University of Oregon since 1998, and served as the Art Department Head from 2008 to 2014. Her drawing-based work has been exhibited in New York, Toronto, Portland, Seattle, Syracuse, Chicago, Montreal, and in Germany. Vandenburgh recently received a UO Fund for Faculty Excellence award and an Oregon Arts Commission Career Opportunity Grant.

• School of Planning, Public Policy and Management: Rich Margerum, Professor of Planning, Public Policy and Management. Margerum has taught at the UO since 2001 and has served as the head of the Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management since 2005. His research areas include environmental planning, land-use issues and collaborative planning and management, decision making and evaluation of implementation. Margerum recently received a UO Fund for Faculty Excellence Award.

In addition, Associate Professor Kate Mondloch will continue to serve as head of the Department of the History of Art and Architecture, which will remain an independent department within the College of Design.

“I am pleased to share the outcome of this process and to announce our new Heads of School, each of whom brings leadership experience, academic accomplishment, and a collaborative spirit to the role,” Lindner said in an email to faculty, staff and students.

Although the new Heads of School will not formally begin until the launch of the College of Design in July, they will be involved actively in the transition to the college structure.

The appointments are for an initial term of three years, subject to review.
