Artist Karen Carson (BFA, ’66) currently has a solo exhibition featuring work spanning her 50-year career at the Los Angeles contemporary art gallery GAVLAK.
The show focuses mainly on Carson’s renowned bas relief works and zipper series, situating her work within in the minimalism movement.
ArtDaily reports that “the exhibition’s title refers to the interplay between these two series; both operate as key historical markers that speak to Carson’s artistic importance for the past five decades, creating work with an expansive visual language that has engaged contemporary issues and political culture in myriad ways.”
Gallery owner Sarah Gavlak said of Carson, “as a staple in the Los Angeles art scene since the 1970s, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce Karen's prolific output and unique practice to audiences beyond the West Coast.”
