SAE Students Colin Keiner and Destiny Martinez both won awards in this year's AIA National Photography Competition, with Keiner winning the Fuller Award for the most outstanding photograph for a subject in the United States. Michael Wilkes, BArch '71, earned 5 honorable mentions in the main competition. The full ceremony is online on YouTube.

Nancy Cheng, professor emerita in the School of Architecture and Environment, spent six weeks last winter sharing her expertise in timber building design and architectural education as a Fulbright Specialist at Universidad Cientifica del Sur in Lima, Peru.

Last term, a partnership with Bora Architecture & Interiors put students at the center of one of civic architecture’s most complex design challenges. This special partnership between the Library Design Studio with Bora Architecture and Interiors, a prominent Portland-based firm working to reimagine community-centered civic design, challenged graduate and upper-level bachelor students to design community libraries from the inside out, working alongside industry professionals on questions that go far beyond aesthetics.

Davis's latest book meditates on his personal insights that have come visiting one hundred places over several decades. Davis writes poetically about everything from the mundane to the famous, with some of the sights emblematic of beauty, some the product of fine craftsmanship, some active, and some quiet, but all memorable.

ZGF, including BArch '89 Gene Sandoval, were recognized by the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction. The foundation recognized 20 unique projects for the foundation's upcoming 2025 Holcim Foundation Awards. One of the twenty projects recognized was the Portland International Airport main terminal renovation and expansion.

School of Architecture & Environment students recently created models for the hospital of tomorrow for their end-of-term reviews, using mass timber as a base for the projects.

The Port of Portland has approved a lease for the University of Oregon’s acoustic research laboratory planned at the Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus at Terminal 2. The Oregon Acoustic Research Laboratory is the research and development anchor tenant planned for the campus, where the Port is transforming a former marine terminal in Portland’s Northwest industrial area into a manufacturing hub to support Oregon’s growing mass timber industry, create new jobs and address the region’s housing shortage.

In the future, your new home might be delivered by flatpack like an IKEA bookshelf. Instead of a frame of two-by-fours, workers would assemble prefabricated panels that fit together like pieces of a gingerbread house — only much more precisely.
