Mass timber design wins regional award

Employing a unique engineered wood product only recently produced by Oregon mills, a UO student team has won an Honorable Mention in a competition hosted by the American Institute of Architects Northwest and Pacific Region.

The students in Professors Judith Sheine and Mark Donofrio’s spring studio designed a parking structure using Oregon’s newest structural wood product—cross-laminated timber, or CLT—an exceptional accomplishment in architectural education and design practice.

Energy studies lab welcomes new director

The UO’s research lab on sustainable high performance buildings and healthy indoor environments welcomes a new director this month to lead the Energy Studies in Buildings Laboratories (ESBL) in Eugene and Portland. Kevin Van Den Wymelenberg, PhD, joins the award-winning lab after serving eleven years at the University of Idaho in a similar post. Van Den Wymelenberg was the founding director the UI Integrated Design Lab in Boise, Idaho. He takes over ESBL leadership from Philip H.

American Society of Landscape Architects elevates Ribe to Fellow

The American Society of Landscape Architects has elevated Robert Ribe, professor in the UO Department of Landscape Architecture, to the ASLA Council of Fellows for 2015. Fellowship is among the highest honors the ASLA bestows on members and recognizes the contributions of these individuals to their profession and society at large based on their works, leadership, management, knowledge, and service.
