Adrenaline Film Project spurs creativity

When the timer starts at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, participants in the Adrenaline Film Project (AFP) will have already missed their chance to rest for the next three days.

The project is a competition for the Cinema Pacific Film Festival, April 23-27, based at the University of Oregon. March 7 was the deadline for AFP applicants to have submitted a short reel of their previous work. Participants selected for the competition will have exactly 72 hours to pitch, write, film, produce, and edit a five-minute short film.

Symposium to examine art forgery

This year’s 10th Annual Art History Graduate Student Symposium at the University of Oregon explores the concept of forgery in the world of art. “Reproducing the Original: The Copy’s Role in the History of Art” is centered on the concepts of authenticity, reproduction, and forgery throughout time.

The April 17-18 event, which includes a keynote speech by Winnie Wong, will take place in Gerlinger and Lawrence Halls on the UO campus.

Irvin article among top 75 of 3,500

An article in Public Administration Review (PAR) by Associate Professor Renee Irvin has been selected as among PAR’s 75 most influential stories since the journal’s inception in 1940. With more than 3,500 articles having appeared in PAR, being selected as one of the 75 most influential is a stellar accomplishment. Irvin is a professor in the Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management.   

Laurie Olin, Ken Smith to deliver landscape architecture talks

Two distinguished landscape architects will be on campus in the coming weeks to deliver lectures as part of the Department of Landscape Architecture’s two endowed lectures series.

Laurie D. Olin will deliver the inaugural Kenneth I. Helphand Endowed Lecture on Tuesday, April 22, at the Ford Alumni Center Giustina Ballroom, 1720 E. 13th Avenue, Eugene. The 5:30 p.m. gathering is free and open to the public.

MFA thesis show May 3-25 in Portland

In Medias Res, the 2014 University of Oregon MFA Thesis Exhibition featuring work by five Department of Art master of fine arts students, will be on view May 3-25 at Disjecta Interdisciplinary Art Center, 8371 N. Interstate Avenue in Portland. The exhibition opens with a free public reception Friday, May 2, from 6-8 p.m. View the artist’s work on the Department of Art MFA exhibition site.

UO senior wins IIDA competition

When she was younger, Madeline Gorman admits, she had an unusual predilection for certain public buildings.

“This is weird, but when I was little, something about airports, doctor offices, and grocery stores was comforting to me, and I think if they are well designed, they can really make these dreadful tasks more enjoyable,” said Gorman, a fourth-year interior architecture student.

Michlig, Zerzan team up for Portland 2014

"Look up from your screens. The only adventure is resistance."  

That sentiment, by writer-philosopher-anarchist John Zerzan, accompanies the most recent art installation by Department of Art Assistant Professor Christopher Michlig. Michlig asked Zerzan to collaborate with him on the installation for Portland2014, a biennial exhibition that celebrates artists who are defining and advancing contemporary art practices.
