The 10th annual University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts Career Symposium will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 11 at the Left Bank Annex, 101 N. Weidler Street, in Portland. The deadline to register as a professional mentor is March 15. Registration for other participants opens April 1.
For professionals, the symposium is an ideal opportunity to meet with students from A&AA to serve as a mentor, assisting with their career choices and preparation for their respective career fields. Disciplines represented include architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, studio digital arts, arts administration, history of art and architecture, product design, historic preservation, and planning, public administration, and nonprofit management.
Mentor sessions include roundtable topics, small group portfolio reviews, and practice interviews—all designed as informal mentoring opportunities to assist students in their next steps. Students from the university’s Eugene and Portland locations are invited, with free transportation provided for students from Eugene.
New this year is a video library available to students seeking information on their career options. The 1-3 minute previews of portfolios, interview clips, and job search ideas will cover all disciplines. Professionals interested in submitting video clips can access the site (under portfolios) for examples.
Also new this year is an art and object silent auction of work by students across all disciplines to raise funds for the international internship travel fund. For information on how to submit work, email pods@uoregon.edu. Artwork is due no later than April 5.
Registration for the Career Symposium is through Survey Monkey.
