Kingston Heath, director of the Historic Preservation Program at UO, will participate in a panel discussion on the future of historic preservation this Friday, April 12, from 12-1 p.m. during the City Club of Eugene weekly meeting at the Eugene Hilton, 66 East 6th Avenue.
The discussion will examine trends in historic preservation at the national, state, and local levels. Heath’s specialties include vernacular architecture of the American West, New England workers' housing, American building construction history, and vernacular architecture theory. His remarks will focus on national trends and cultural identity within historic structures.
Bob Hart, Executive Director of the Lane County Historical Society, will moderate the discussion. Panelists include Peggy Morretti, executive director of the Historic Preservation League of Oregon, and Andrew James Fisher, chairman of the Historic Review Board for the City of Eugene.
Morretti will talk about the work of the Historic Preservation League of Oregon. She will explain how it defines and promotes the preservation of endangered historic sites in our state and point out financial opportunities in preserving historic structures. Fisher will focus on local issues and the future of historic preservation in Eugene.
A plate lunch is available for $15 for members and $17 for nonmembers. Admission only for nonmembers is $5.
