BILDS wraps up design-build residence

Oregon students are nearing completion of the second student-designed and -built house that will be for sale and featured in the 2015 Lane County Tour of Homes.

The students are part of Oregon BILDS, a series of three classes offered each year to students interested in a hands-on residential design-build experience. Nearly 90 UO students in architecture, interior architecture, and landscape architecture, plus a handful of construction technology students from Lane Community College, have participated in the program this year.

PPPM awards honor public service

Roberto Jiménez, Timothy Beatley, and Lorelei Juntunen are the winners of the 2015 awards for public service conferred annually by the UO Department of PPPM and the PPPM Advisory Council. Assistant Professor Dyana Mason is the department’s 2015 Teacher of the Year. The awards ceremony will take place Thursday, May 28, at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Ford Lecture Hall on the University of Oregon campus.

Scholars on Board Symposium takes place May 19 in Bowerman Heritage Hall

Four students in the Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management’s Scholars on Board Program will present their experiences from serving on the board during a symposium Tuesday, May 19, from 8-9:30 a.m. in Bowerman Heritage Hall in the Bowerman Family Center at University of Oregon.

This year, sixteen graduate students have enrolled in the board governance program, with each spending a minimum of nine months serving on a regional nonprofit board of directors. The students’ projects range from redesigning board practices to leading strategic planning retreats.

The Watershed to host BFA photography exhibition May 1

The Gallery at the Watershed is hosting an exhibit showcasing works by the graduating BFAs in photography. Salute these talented Ducks in person at their artist reception at the gallery on May 1 during the First Friday Artwork, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m., 321 Mill St., Suite 6, Eugene. The students include Emily Albertson, Brinkley Capriola, Katherine Carlson, Matt Ellis, Megan Griffin, Diana Patin, Keelan Sullivan, and Rachel Troiano.

UO design students win awards in Lyceum Foundation competition

UO architecture undergraduate Jiawei (Vincent) Mai is first-prize winner of the Lyceum Competition travel grant for his entry in this year’s competition sponsored by the Lyceum Fellowship. UO architecture undergraduate Haley Davis won a merit award in the annual challenge, which is open to students in accredited architecture programs in the United States and Canada.

National Park Service career ideal fit for preservation alumna

The impetus for Sueann Brown to enroll in the UO’s Historic Preservation Program came in large part from attending the UO’s preservation field school in Italy. “That month in Oira … changed my life,” says Brown, now the lead historical architect for the National Park Service’s Pacific Northwest Region. “Obviously they taught me a lot about historic structures and cultural landscapes, but for me the most important lesson that summer was the example … provided of how we should live our lives—spending time doing things we are passionate about.
