Vandenburgh work provides ‘bravura moment,’ critic says

Artist-educator Laura Vandenburgh “delivers [a group] show’s one true bravura moment,” writes art critic Richard Speer in art ltd. about “Constructs,” a recent exhibition at Disjecta Contemporary Art Center in Portland, Oregon. “Vandenburgh’s wall sculptures of meticulously cut paper variously resemble webs, nets, and the warped Penrose diagrams that show how black holes distort space-time. Yost Grube Hall begins design on environmental center project

Two A&AA alumni—Scott Brown (IIDA, LEED AP, BIArch ’93) and John Medvec (AIA, LEED AP, MArch ’90), of Yost Grube Hall Architecture—are on the team for a site restoration project at John Inskeep Environmental Learning Center (ELC). Regional planning agency Metro awarded the ELC restoration project a Nature in the Neighborhoods grant.

A&AA student research wide-ranging at Graduate Research Forum

Architecture students Annie Chiang, Ryan Dirks, Lindsay Rasmussen, Eric Schmidt, and Ashly Tuffo won the poster competition at the recent Graduate Student Research Forum for their project, "An Energy Analysis of The Stellar Apartments."  

UO student team honored in Urban Land Institute competition

Architecture students Roxanne Robles, Gilberto Villalobos, and Omar Hason, landscape architecture student Andrew Jepson-Sullivan, and PPPM students Nestor Guevara and Evelyn Perdomo received an honorable mention in the 2015 Hines/Urban Land Institute design competition for their project titled "Urban Groves."

The jury recognized the UO submission for “the diagrammatic visualization, a good optimization of real estate in plan, as well as the outlined cross section, and general presentation board design.”

Pattern Language conference in Austria has roots at UO in Portland

Department of Architecture Professor Hajo Neis, director of the Department of Architecture at UO in Portland and director of the Portland Urban Architecture Research Laboratory (PUARL), has announced a collaboration between PUARL and Pursuit of Pattern Languages and Societal Change (PURPLSOC) to present the international 2015 conference on pattern language, at Danube University in Austria in July.
