Associate Professor in the History of Art and Architecture, Maile Hutterer, PhD, was a guest of the Deschutes Public Library on August 24 to explore the great gothic cathedrals of Western Europe. Participants were able to learn how medieval builders experimented with audacious structural daring to create awesome buildings that inspired and amazed their audiences.

The University of Oregon's Sustainable City Year Program has selected the City of Salem as its new partner for the 2023-2024 academic year. This year-long partnership, based out of the University of Oregon, helps communities solve the problems of today and lay the groundwork for a sustainable, livable future, with help of applied learning and passionate students.

School of Planning, Public Policy and Management Associate Professor, Yizhao Yang, has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship to Japan. Yang will study Japanese cities’ use of Voluntary Local Reviews, which assess United Nations Sustainable Development Goal achievements and provide sustainability education to its citizens.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has designated landscape architecture as a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) degree program. The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) advocated for the designation and has more news about this important development.

The Venice Architecture Biennale features some of the world's best artists, architects, and designers coming together to put on a unique exhibit that sees over 600,000 people over a span of six months. Students and faculty in the UO College of Design played a prominent role in this year's exhibition.
