The 1950s was a transformative era for the School of Architecture and Allied Arts and its facilities. As the school moved ahead to engage with the modern movement of design, art, and architecture, it was proposed to create a new addition in the International style to reflect these ideas.
Lisa Abia-Smith, director of education at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art and an instructor in the Arts and Administration Program, has been named Oregon Museum Education Art Educator of the Year by the Oregon Art Education Association (OAEA).

The top priority of the A&AA campaign is phase 1 construction of a new academic home in the heart of campus. The A&AA goal is part of the UO’s recently announced comprehensive capital campaign to raise $2 billion.

A peer-reviewed journal article by Assistant Professor Gerardo Sandoval has won the Chester Rapkin Award For Best Paper in the 2013 Journal of Planning Education and Research. The prize was awarded for Sandoval’s article "Shadow Transnationalism: Cross-Border Networks and Planning Challenges of Transnational Unauthorized Immigrant Communities" (Vol. 33 (1), pp. 176-193).
The Pacific Northwest Preservation Field School is celebrating its “20 Years Reunion” November 7-9. In addition to an evening of remembering, socializing, and learning at the White Stag Block in downtown Portland, attendees can participate in field trips to past and future field school sites.

The annual A&AA Majors Fair is scheduled this year for Thursday, October 23, from 4-6 p.m. in Lawrence Hall. The event offers a relaxed atmosphere where all undecided, “redeciding” and exploring students can speak personally with faculty members, professional advisers, and student representatives from A&AA.
In honor of A&AA’s 100th birthday celebration, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA) on the University of Oregon campus is hosting three exhibitions featuring former A&AA faculty member David McCosh and former A&AA student Gordon Gilkey, all commencing in October.
The Arts and Administration Program welcomed its first cohort of students 20 years ago, in fall term 1994. The new program consisted of three components: an arts management master’s degree, a community arts undergraduate minor, and support courses designed to serve majors and students throughout the university. It replaced the Department of Art Education, which closed in August 1993 by university action due to the Measure 5 tax limitation initiative. Linda Ettinger served as first director.
