The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) has awarded Associate Professor Roxi Thoren the 2015 Excellence in Teaching Award–Senior Faculty. CELA confers this award to recognize excellence in creative, innovative, and effective teaching methodologies and practice to enhance excellence in teaching.
The A&AA community continues to take steps toward creating its future home on University Street. The location of the Phase I A&AA building is on the site of the current McArthur Court. The White Box at the University of Oregon in Portland presents Unfiltered Kilter, an exhibition of work by UO Department of Art alumni Carl Diel, Heidi Schwegler, and Cara Tomlinson, from March 5 through April 25.
Artist Gage Hamilton has been painting the town, literally, since his graduation from the Digital Arts Program at the UO in Portland in 2012. Hamilton is the organizer of a public art project, Forest For The Trees (FFTT), a nonprofit public mural project to promote public visual expression, collaboration, and community engagement with contemporary art and the creative process.
Marcus Harvey, digital arts ’12, has developed a new “vintage athletic inspired” product line called Portland Gear. With the aim of representing “the new creative culture of Portland,” Portland Gear is already being sold in forty states and nine countries. While a UO student, Harvey developed an action sports brand, a concept that Portland Gear takes to a professional level.
Colin Ives, associate professor of digital arts, has been awarded a 2015 Faculty Research Award from the UO Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation for his creative work, research, and contribution to the field of digital arts. The peer-reviewed award, which honors past excellence and funds future projects, is given to a select group of professors working at the top of their fields.
The Sustainable Cities Initiative (SCI) will hold a three-day conference April 12-14 for university representatives, city officials, and organizational partners who are interested in adopting and adapting the Sustainable City Year Program (SCYP) model to their home institutions and community contexts.
