Transformative Education: SCYP, the City of Salem, and UO Kick Off Year Long Partnership

On a Wednesday afternoon at the University of Oregon in the historic Gerlinger Hall, guests and stakeholders of all ages came together to celebrate the start of another Sustainable City Year Program (SCYP) service year. The fourteenth year's partner is a special one, as the City of Salem returns to the program.

HAA Grad Explores Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione's Identity and Prints in Latest Paper

History of Art and Architecture Alumna, Claire Sabitt (MA, '16), recently published an article exploring Genoese artist Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione's prints. Titled, "Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione’s Oriental Heads: Fashioning Genoese Artistic Identity in Seicento Rome," Sabitt's article reflects on Castiliglione's identity and how his work on the two etchings in the document can lead the reader to re-cast the artist "as a savvy businessman, a theatrical artist with a flair for the dramatic, and a crucial example of how a traveling artist used printed imagery to build a reputation while abroad."

The University of Oregon's Sustainable City Year Program has selected the City of Salem as its new partner for the 2023-2024 academic year. This year-long partnership, based out of the University of Oregon, helps communities solve the problems of today and lay the groundwork for a sustainable, livable future, with help of applied learning and passionate students.
